Dear Parents and Guardians

Tena Koutou Katoa

A very warm welcome back to the new school year and a special welcome to all first time parents of students at Mahurangi College. Our students have again achieved well in the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) being above national average at all 3 levels and in numeracy, literacy and university entrance.

The top 10 students using provisional results at each level are:

Level 3: Synove Scott, Stephanie Hazard, Brydie Johnston, Joshua Caldwell, Emi Pogoni, Glen Milne, Colin Davies, Michael McCarthy, Jessica Pendergrast, Ashlea Lynch.

Level 2: Sara Mills, Ruth Warren, Tessa Evans, Mitchell Houlbrooke, Emma Hextall, Thomas Napier, Rachel Basevi, Sarah Krieg, Amadea Shilston, Adam Dowling.

Level 1: Melody Freeth, Annelise Basevi, Julia Schenz, Kelsie Stewart, Ian Paterson, Gabrielle Holdgate, Tessa Davie-Martin, Helen Mak, Imogen Edwards, Kade Aitken, Bradley McMahon, David Hazard.

We look forward to further excellent
results from our students in 2008. It is essential your child gets into good work habits and routines from the start of the year and learns to manage their time effectively. Last year we were concerned at the hours some students were working at part-time jobs out of school, which had a negative impact on their study. Part-time jobs, cultural and sportingcommitments, and other out of school activities that your child is involved in, all need to be carefully planned in advance so as to minimise impact on student learning.

We are very pleased to welcome the following new staff to our school this

year:

Mrs Debbie Hamer: Year 8 Programme Manager

Mrs Chris Mills: Junior English Programme Manager

Mr Khamal Ganley: PE Teacher

Miss Joanne Hayward: PE Teacher

Mrs Sarah Corner: Year 8 homeroom teacher

Mrs Ailsa Smith: Home Economics

A record number of Year 13 students this year were involved in the five day camp on Great Barrier Island during which time they also completed their Peer Support training. Feedback from the staff involved was very positive and we are confident we will have another excellent group of senior student leaders in the school again this year.

Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as our Prefects for 2008:

Head Boy: Thomas Napier

Head Girl: Laura de Haan
