Dear Parents and Guardians
Tena Koutou Katoa
Congratulations to our Head of Technology, Mr Grant Dick, on his appointment as Associate Principal at James Hargest High School in Invercargill. This is a well deserved promotion for Mr Dick who has been at Mahurangi College for just over 10 years during which time he has made an excellent contribution in the classroom, in leading his faculty, on our Senior management team and in the wider life of the school through his involvement in music, drama and coaching sport. We wish him and his family well as they shift South.
Last week all our Year 9 students were involved in mind mapping with Mrs Pinkerton. This is a very
useful skill to assist in understanding and remembering a topic in depth.
Mrs Mansfield has returned from retirement to cover for Mrs Newlove in
Careers and transition while she has her 10-week Ministry funded sabbatical. Mrs Robyn Rae will be covering for Mrs Dashper in Music and Spanish for the next four weeks while Mrs Dashper has her Ministry funded study grant to visit Argentina for a Spanish immersion in a secondary school in Patagonia.
Congratulations to Mr Winiana and his Senior Mixed Touch Team for winning the North Harbour Touch competition for the fifth time in the last six years. This qualified the team to compete in the wider Auckland Regional Touch tournament, which they also won. Our Senior Girls Touch team came second in North Harbour and third in the Auckland Regional Tournament. Both teams have now qualified for the nationals later in the year.
Congratulations also to our Senior Girls’ Volleyball Team who are winning the North Harbour volleyball competition. We wish them well this week as they compete in Palmerston North at the NZ Volleyball Championships.
A reminder to all parents of our Parent Teacher interviews to be held in the last week of this term, Year 7 and 8 on Monday April 14 and Years 9-13 on Wednesday April 16, both from 3:30 to 8:00pm.
