The arts are powerful forms of expression that recognise, value, and contribute to the unique bicultural and multicultural character of Aotearoa New Zealand. The arts have their own distinct languages that use both verbal and non-verbal conventions, through movement, sound, and image, the arts transform people's creative ideas into expressive works that communicate layered meanings. Learning in, through, and about the arts stimulates creative action and response by engaging and connecting thinking, imagination, senses, and feelings.
Visual Art:
The Visual Art department is offering a range of senior art curriculum areas. Each area offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to explore their artistic learning. The courses at Level 1 are similar with the exception of the external folio boards. The emphasis of the folio boards may be either in design (computer generated images) or practical art (variety of mixed media). Students are able to select one area either Art Design or Practical Art at Level 1.
Music:
A practical and theoretical course at level one and two with the opportunity to specialise in level three.
Drama:
As students perform, they learn to analyse, ,and respond to different forms of drama and theatre, they gain a deeper appreciation of their rich cultural heritage language and new power to examine attitudes, behaviours, and values and extends to communication of complex ideas and concepts.
