George Shead and I attended the Anzac dawn and morning service yesterday and standing there watching the proceedings made me really think about the significance of Anzac day... one thing that we all have in common is that we remember those who risked their lives while fighting for our country with many not returning to us.

more.. Prefects join large crowd at Warkworth Anzac Dawn Service
A large group of Mahurangi College Students again dragged themselves out of bed to join with veterans and a large crowd of other local supporters to commemorate Anzac Day 2012 and the Dawn Service. The Head boy and Girl laid a wreath along with many others during the service. They were also actively involved in the later morning service.

Today is Armistice Day: the 11th of the 11th of the 11th, (of the 11th.) On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent. An eerie quiet settled over the moonscape of the Front. The Great War, the 'war to end all wars' was over and perhaps 11 million men lay dead. Today, 2011, is significant for those number lovers as the last two year digits will not reappear for another thousand years.

Anzac Roll of Honour for Warkworth Students As part of our Anzac Service at Mahurangi College, we remember those students of Mahurangi District Schools who were killed in service of New Zealand overseas. Each student representative holding a cross calls out the name of one of the fallen. If anyone has any information about any of these fallen heroes, please email us at admin@mahurangi.school.nz so that we can celebrate who they were.
Lest We Forget more.. Anzac Day 2010 and School Assembly
Senior students represented Mahurangi College at the local Warkworth Dawn and 10:30 Anzac Ceremonies. They also presented an Anzac Day assembly in the College to the full school in their new Auditorium. This is the first time in many years that all the school was in the school hall for an assembly. Mr MacLeod (Principal), Sam (Head Boy) and Stephanie (Head Girl) lead the service. Senior students with crosses represented the 31 ex-students who had laid their lives down in conflicts and the service finished with the last post.

our students and staff and the local ANZAC day
ceremonies in Warkworth and they spoke at the
10.30 service. They also spoke at our school
commemoration last week and emphasised the way
in which we honour those in the past who gave their
lives fighting for our freedom and democracy, is by
each of us living lives of integrity today.
