Mahurangi College has a long tradition of year 13 camping and tramping expeditions on Great Barrier Island. Each year approximately 120 students, parents and staff ferry across from Sandspit to Port Fitzroy for 5 days and 4 nights of challenging backcountry tramping and camping more..

Thursday 2nd of Feb 10:30pm saw 114 extremely exhausted and disheveled students, staff and parents stumble onto the Sandspit wharf to reclaim their packs, after five days on Great Barrier Island. This years expedition started a week before the return of school, with a morning meeting on Thursday 27th to check all students gear and tents.
