Four students attend Pacific Island Leaders of Tomorrow.
Four of our Y13 students attended the PILOT programme, (Pacific Island Leaders Of Tomorrow) backed by the Universities and Polytechs. The students rotated around 3 workshops looking at Tertiary education providers and finished with a financial literacy workshop aimed at gaining information about managing funds while studying. music@mahu offers instrument tuition to students during school time. Flute, clarinet and saxophone are taught through the music itinerant scheme and there is no charge for these lessons. Playing Happy Families- Stage Challenge 2012
The theme for this year's Stage Challenge was gambling. The concept, devised by the Planning Team lead by Elya Martin, was based around a family struggling with this addiction. It depicted the tragedy the affects of gambling can have on relationships. Mahurangi Stage Challenge judged 3rd in NZ live on TV
Mark Mitchell and Claire Thompson representing the Stage Challenge Foundation presented the awards to our successful Stage Challenge group at Tuesdays Assembly. The Stage Challenge team produced a great theme based on Wizard of Oz where a girl turnsher back on her home but then after many sad experiences with “friends” and others, she realizes home was not so bad and returns. The State of the Arts
Last term the Arts Department opened it's doors to the community to showcase the work being done in class by our students. This was a successful evening involving wonderful performances from the music students and two short plays by our talented drama department. These were both powerful and comical. 3 Mahurangi Students place in top 3 at Te Tai Tokerau Manu Kōrero Speech Competition
