Pathways to Manhood April 23rd -28th 2013
A five day outdoor programme of mentoring and role modelling that invests deeply in young men at an age when it is most needed. Senior Kapa Haka group perform at the RSA
On 25th October, the Mahurangi Senior Kapa Haka performance group were invited to perform at the Veteran's Day luncheon at the Warkworth RSA. Because this luncheon was to commemorate Armistice Day, the Senior Kapa Haka group sang songs from WWI and WWII as well as delighting the audience with their kapa haka repertoire. more..


Self Defence Course well received
On Friday October 19th, 35 boys learned about avoidance strategies, de-escalation strategies so that physical violence or a physical response can be avoided and concluded the day with the practical skills of confrontation management. Eclipse brings students learning to life
Many students have read and researched eclipses but on Weds 14th Nov 2012, they witnessed a solar eclipse where the moon moves in front of the sun, blocking out the sun. It was only full in Queensland but very close to full here in lower northland. Learning coming to life! more..


Poroporoaki to farewell Michael-Lydia and Kane
On Thursday 1st November Mahurangi College held its first poroporaki ceremony for two year 13 students of Maori descent, Kayne Middleton and Michael-Lydia Winiana. Mahurangi Students host visiting Singapore students
At the end of October, we welcomed a group of students from Dunearn Secondary School, Singapore. They were billeted by Mahurangi families and spend a memorable three days with each other, giving the visitors a glimpse of the Kiwi life. Two students selected for 21 day Outward Bound course in January
Each year three trustees who run an annual charity golf tournament, called the St Patrick’s Day Charity Golf Classic, sponsor two students from throughout Auckland to attend the Outward Bound Course in Anikiwa. Nathan Bull and Kerianne Hatton from Year 12 are the recipients of this year’s sponsorship. They will attend the 21 day course in early January 2013. more..

Three 7C students raise funds for Cancer Kids
Inspired to help others less fortunate than themselves, three Year 7 students are making a magnificent contribution to the Child Cancer Foundation. Cassie Clark, Sandra Wilcock and Alix Tobin have sold bracelets; baked, decorated and sold cupcakes; solicited items for raffles and spent hours at various venues selling tickets, and accepting donations for soft toy gifts. more..


Minister of Education Visits Mahu
Education Minister, Hekia Parata took time out of her busy schedule to pay Mahurangi College a quick visit on Friday the 21st September. She met with Senior Management and Board of Trustees chair, Tracey Martin. Pasifika Week at Mahurangi College
This week sees our Pasifika students celebrating their own rich cultures and languages. The Pasifika Performing group have planned activities every day to showcase some of their skills and values important to them. Monday started with a shared breakfast enjoying warm rice pudding in coconut milk followed by toast . The 2012 History & Cultural Trip to Vietnam- the full story
Two years in the planning and it was hard to believe that we were finally at Auckland Airport about to embark on our two-week trip to Vietnam. We had combined with a group from Whangaparoa College to make the trip financially more feasible.  All of the travel arrangements, accommodation and tour guides had been organised by ‘Defining Moments’, the House of Travel, Whangarei. We hoped that this would mean the trip would be stress free and after the initial glitch of one of the Whangaparoa students forgetting his passport, this certainly  proved to be the case. more..

Billets needed for Singapore students exchange November
Later this year we will again host some visiting students from Singapore. We have done this in the past on a number of occasions, which we have found to be a very beneficial experience for all parties. B Block Construction progressing well
Construction of B block is progressing well. The main beams came first along with laying the ground floor. The beams for the upper floor were laid over 2 days. These beams are pre-stressed to go perfectly flat when the concrete is laid on top. The first walls were laid for the lift well on the last day of the holidays. more..


School Van - Thank you to Lion Foundation
At the beginning of this year we were lucky enough to receive $25,000 from the Lion Foundation for the purchase of a school van. The van has already had plenty of use transporting small groups of students to sporting and cultural events. PTA Revival Fashion Show great success

Three students compete at the Nga Manu Korero Regionals
On Wed 30th May, Thurs 31st May and Fri 1 June, three Senior Maori students represented Mahurangi College at the Nga Manu Korero Regionals for Te Taitokerau Secondary Schools at Bream Bay College.
