Orewa wins Televised Murray Jones Shield 16-5

The First Fifteen Rugby Team have been chosen for a televised game at 2.30pm on Saturday 14th July. They will be playing Orewa College at our school for the Murray Jones Shield. Our Team competes in the A Division of North Harbour and have had two good competition wins so far this season against Rangitoto College (20- 15) and Glenfield College (39-9) and a close loss in the dying seconds against Northcote College (5-7). It would be encouraging for the boys to have a good crowd of supporters on that day – it is the last Saturday of the July school holidays.

Due to the fine spell of weather over the July holidays, the field was in perfect condition for this televised game with Mahu in blue and Percy Lion either side of the half way line. The game was played before a huge crowd of Mahurangi and Orewa supporters and was an excellent close game of rugby with the score 5-6 at half time. Over the second half, the Orewa boys were able to exploit their chances to score a converted try and a penalty to win 16- 5.
