Learning through experience in the outdoors can be like discovering a whole new world. Our outdoor education programs are educational, engaging and fun! Year 9 Camp aims to provide a kiwi camping experience for all Year 9 students.
The camp takes place at Dickey Flat Adventure Camp in the beautiful Karangahake Gorge on the Coromandel peninsula. The Karangahake Gorge region combines gold mining history and amazing natural beauty, much of it accessible through a variety of walks that the Year 9’s utilise for many different activities.
The Dickey Flat Adventure Camp is a basic camp that provides toilets, clean water and a wonderful camping space. Mahurangi College makes this space their own and takes everything needed to make it an efficient and comfortable base camp for the week.
With a variety of exciting activities the students are challenged both physically and mentally throughout the week. All activities focus on encouraging students to grow through cooperation, teamwork and positive leadership. We plan our programs to enhance group dynamics; develop leadership and simply to provide an unforgettable adventure.
Our goal is to provide all Year 9 students with a fantastic outdoor experience that challenges our young people and gives them the chance to take risks, be adventurous and have fun in the great outdoors.
